Not to seem like a self-obsessed ego-monster or anything, but I started taking “selfies” in the last couple of weeks. I had the same realization that I had about myself back in art school when I was studying the figure: I work cheap and I’m always available on my own schedule!
I noticed that the couple of photos that I had on my Etsy site with photos of a face got more views- I think people are just naturally drawn in to looking at faces. So, I decided to very literally “get over myself” and my embarrassment (I actually hate being photographed and tend to dodge them at social functions) and try to figure out how to take a descent “selfie.”
Here is what I learned: #1.the angle at which you are shooting yourself is the most important thing. Hold the camera too high, you get a shot down your shirt. Hold the camera too low- the worst- and angle that only my ENT Dr should ever see! Right up the nose! I was trying to make my shots look not obviously done by myself, so I was trying really hard to position my arms and shoulders so that they didn’t have that curved-in look that selfie-takers get. #2. I love Photoshop.
