The “Art” of the Selfie

Not to seem like a self-obsessed ego-monster or anything, but I started taking “selfies” in the last couple of weeks. I had the same realization that I had about myself back in art school when I was studying the figure: I work cheap and I’m always available on my own schedule!

Honestly, I used the smudge tool in Photoshop along my jawline to clean-up all my Scandinavian-heritage fuzzies as well as at he corners of my eyes. Lightened the whole photo in the curves menu so it didn’t look like I was a troll hunkering under a bridge in the shadows (at least I hope I don’t look like a troll…)

I noticed that the couple of photos that I had on my Etsy site with photos of a face got more views- I think people are just naturally drawn in to looking at faces. So, I decided to very literally “get over myself” and my embarrassment (I actually hate being photographed and tend to dodge them at social functions) and try to figure out how to take a descent “selfie.”

Here is what I learned:  #1.the angle at which you are shooting yourself is the most important thing.  Hold the camera too high, you get a shot down your shirt.  Hold the camera too low- the worst- and angle that only my ENT Dr should ever see!  Right up the nose!  I was trying to make my shots look not obviously done by myself, so I was trying really hard to position my arms and shoulders so that they didn’t have that  curved-in look that selfie-takers get.  #2. I love Photoshop.

Playing with Instagram

It’s a rainy day here on Silver Lake in South Jersey.  I’ve got a bunch of gorgeous new jewelry waiting to be photographed, but since it looks best on a sunny day, I guess that I will just have to wait. So, I’m taking this hour before picking Rory up from Theater Camp to learn all about using Instagram!  Sterling Disc Necklace with Pearl  Copper Disc and Pearl Earrings

I now post to Instagram with the handle roryroo22studio.  I love learning new things!

Promotion decisions for July…

My current June promotion for Pearls has met with some success- the sale is pearl orders or re-stringing of pearls is done at $3 per inch.  Since pearls on cotton or silk cord (which is what most pearls are strung on) need to be re-strung every 5-10 years depending on the amount of wear, this is a great time to get your pearls some much-needed upkeep!  So, now that I have done a “sale” I think that I would like to do another one- this was kinda fun.  I’m trying to decide between doing a 20% discount on July birthstone (Ruby and/or Red crystals) OR doing free shipping to anywhere in the USA (patriotic of me- right?).  Send me a quick message through my contact page here at RoryRoo22.com and/or “Like” me on Facebook to give me your much-needed opinion so I can start my advertising for July- Thanks!

Searching for a Jewelry Sales Rep…

Today I officially launched my search for Jewelry Sales Representatives who are experienced and work on commission based on sales.  Though wholesaling is a newer venture here at RoryRoo22, LLC Design Studio, it is a process that I have managed while working for other employers so I am absolutely confident in our ability to complete and deliver quality handmade jewelry at wonderfully reasonable prices.  Please see my CV  at www.mindyjuntti.com for information on my background.  My styles are proven sellers at craft shows and I am gaining a following on Etsy.com.  I produce a line of Bridge (costume) Jewelry as well as working in precious and semi-precious stones and metals.  So many exciting things are happening daily here at RoryRoo22!

I’ve been working this week on “renovating” my Etsy store site. I’m completely changing the look, lightening things up, am taking better photos and and even creating a wholesale section for Store and Boutique owners of brick-and-mortar stores to be able to carry my newest lines!
